Let's Throw a Party! Raise Your Tea Glasses High in Celebration!

It's time for a celebration!  Yes, 150 years ago, South Carolina officially seceded from the United States, throwing into motion the events that led directly to the Civil War.  While some people might view this as a not-so-joyous occasion, others are jumping into it with abandon.

The Confederate Heritage Trust and the Sons of Confederate Veterans organized the Secessionist Gala yesterday, where people gathered to celebrate the start of the bloodiest and most violent episode in American history.

Of course, there were people who didn't think this was a good idea, like the NAACP.  They're acting as if the whole secessionist movement was about slavery, and not States' Rights (you know, the right of states to say that some people, based on an arbitrary selector like skin color, aren't actually people but property).

I can't wait for all the celebrations and parties to commeorate the great and wonderful events of the War Between the States:

Fort Sumter Day - April 12–13, 2011: First shots fired in the Civil War.
Bull Run (or Manassas, for the Confederates) Days - July 21, 2011
Gettysburg Days - July 1-3, 2011
Antietam Day - September 17, 2012: The bloodiest battle ever fought by Americans, with over 23,000 casualties in a single day.
Emancipation Proclaimation Day - January 1, 2013
Sacking of Atlanta Day - September 2, 2014
Appomattox Day - April 9, 2015

Of course, some people haven't forgotten the war...

A key date in American History. Our History Professor said last year that if the Democrat President Buchanan had acted immediately, insteard of sitting on his hands and letting it be Lincoln's problem, he would have had a damn good chance of stopping the whole thing.

As it was, he did nothing and South Caroline was viewed as a test case. So Six other States seceded by the time Lincoln even took office.

Back then the President did not take office until March, unlike now where he/she takes office the following January.

So, Buchanan gave them plenty of time to fire up and let things get totally out of hand.

From "Gladiator"
Quintus: People should know when they're conquered.
Maximus: Would you, Quintus? Would I? .

Seem to me that irrational people will cling to their guns and religion as well as politics in face of reality no matter what.

Chuck, speaking of the tea party, I though you might get a kick out of this post about an atheist activist who commented on the tea party recently.
